Image and Commodity Ethnography
This assignment:
Go to a shopping center and photograph a reproduction of an artwork.
Trace the art to its “author” and write how and why the image has been transferred – focus on the transformation from the image's “original” medium to the state in which you encountered it -- its migration onto a commodity. Identify the mechanical processes by which the artwork was made and reproduced. How does the image intersect with the commodity on which it is displayed?
