Walter White's personal life in the 1920's

On February 15, 1922 Walter White wed Gladys Powell who worked for him as a stenographer and had been a singer who appeared in the Philadelphia Opera's production of Deep River. Mary White Ovington wrote,
She is a statuesque creature, a bronze Galetia.  Of all the girls she would have attracted me least, but Mr. White thinks that being excitable himself he has incurred the proper contrast.

The marriage soon produced offspring. His first child Jane was born later that same year. A son Walter Carl Darrow White was born in 1927. In 1928 he also met Lillian "Poppy" Cannon a South African born white woman with whom he was to have an affair several years later and who became his second wife in 1948.
