The Death of Walter White

In October, 1954 White had a severe heart attack for which he was hospitalized and had to take a leave from the NAACP.  He was due back on April 1, 1955.  On Monday March 21 he visited the Association’s office talking with the doorman, news vendor, and office staff. That evening he suffered another heart attack and passed away. Both his son and daughter from his first marriage and his second family attended his funeral. Walter’s death made national headlines not just in the African American press but in the mainstream press as well.
