Transnational Performances

How do performers address issues that are central to transnational ways of life such as identity, cultural belonging, citizenship, and memory?

The Latina video collective, Fulana, created the mock commercial Amnezac during the Iraq war and George W. Bush's administration. The narrator addresses a female subject, an immigrant who is troubled by her memories of U.S. invasions to her own country of origin, and her current life in a host country where she is required to perform an uncritical belonging, a form of citizenship tested against the model of patriotism.

Using parody and satire as distancing effects, Fulana makes a striking argument through digital video, depicting U.S. patriotism as defined by consumerism, addiction to pharmaceuticals, and historical amnesia.
