Gloria Anzaldua
micha cardenas references two major border theory names, Gloria Anzaldua and the anthology This Bridge Called My Back. Both present alternative visions of the border and other social sites of inequality from the point of view of groups beyond the white community.
Anzaldua, the poet and theorist, voices the spirit of the Transborder Immigrant Tool, throughout her writings,particularly Borderlands: the new mestiza. She writes, "In the 1800s, Anglos migrated illegally into Texas, which was then part of Mexico" (28). In the middle of the 19th Century, "Many, under the threat of Anglo terrorism, abandoned homes and ranches and went to Mexico" (30). Anzaldua's history uses the language of border politics debates as framed in the United States and uses them to tell a contrasting story, exposing the ideology of these terms.
