Rosa Nevodovska: A tog vet zayn (A Day Will Come)

A tog vet zayn —A Day Will Come
From Azoy vi ikh bin (As I Am) (Los Angeles: 1936): 29.
Translated by Etai Rogers-Fett, Edited by Miri Koral.

A day will come: I will fly past the sea—
I will come to you, my father—you, my tate.
To my city will I arrive, where I come from,
After years of wandering, after years of fluttering.

I will walk with you together, walk with you side by side,
Over my homey streets bathed in light,
Your hand, your light, close hand will dissolve
Years of distance, of alienation, of hate.

I will become a child again, become small again,--
After hard years – be strong and adult,
Near your eyes I will release hardened weeping
In tears joyful and hot.
