Reform Judaism is a denomination of Judaism which puts an emphasis on progressive values. Stephen S. Wise Temple identifies as a Reform Jewish temple. One aspect of Reform Judaism is supporting LGBT rights. At first, when individuals and families from the LGBT community started joining the temple, there were congregants who found this problematic. However, the administration and leadership of the synagogue made it clear that the Stephen S. Wise Temple is an inclusive place. Certain values, like inclusiveness, are of paramount importance to Reform Jews, and the community holds itself to high standards in terms of its observance of these values. Rabbi Yoshi has had to speak with different congregants regarding this subject, but feels that the reactions were very positive overall in the congregation. He says that it is important to have this conversation with congregants and acknowledge that this is not a simple idea for everybody to understand.

There are also a few other key differences that distinguish Reform Jews from non-Reform Jews. Services in Reform congregations use a mix of English and Hebrew. Additionally, Reform Jews are selective in the prayers they use. They may speak only certain lines of prayers, based on which ones are more important than others according to their own values. In addition, many Reform Jews do not follow traditional Jewish practices such as avoiding the use of electronic devices and avoiding driving on Shabbat and specific holidays. They also do not necessarily keep entirely kosher.
