Mastaneh Moghadam: Work in the LGBTQ Community

Other than being heavily involved with Cross Cultural Expressions, Mastaneh also spends a lot of her time advocating for the LGBTQ community. By collaborating with Asher Gellis, the executive director of the organization Jewish Queers (JQ), Mastaneh was able to create a public support group for parents as well as LGBTQ individuals in the Iranian community to deal with the hardships of coming out of the closet. Known as “We Do Care, Iranian American Parents of the LGBTQ Community,” this program’s goal is helping the LGBTQ Iranian community and their loved ones through various programs, events, as well as educational panels. In addition to this support group, Mastaneh worked with Shervin Khorramian, a member of JQ’s board of directors, and mediated the first public Iranian discussion panel focused on the Iranian LGBTQ community.
