Mastaneh Moghadam: Post-Jewish Family Services Career
After being a part of the last program funded by the Department of Mental Health for three years, Jewish Family Services shifted its focus away from Iranian Jewish communities, causing Mastaneh to leave the institution and venture off so that she could continue to pursue her passion of aiding Middle Eastern communities. Her departure from Jewish Family Services gave her the opportunity to develop new and exciting multicultural projects with her husband. The first, PIF TV, is an internet site that allocates stipends for aspiring filmmakers that make 3-5 minute skits regarding what it feels like being Iranian. The second project, Cross Cultural Expressions (CCE), is a nonprofit that also bridges the cultural gaps in the Iranian community through therapy, education, and the arts. Mastaneh also created a counseling center within CCE that provides aid to domestic violence victims, immigrants, the elderly, as well as the LGBTQ community. In this program, Mastaneh aids underserved communities like Iranians, Russians, and Armenians.
