Los Angeles Fashion District: Made With China

Bobak Roofian is constantly partnering with manufacturers and developers overseas in China for his various brands that make up Urgent Gear, Inc. One of the things that was immediately noticeable about Roofian’s office building upon first walking in was the overwhelming Asian influence all throughout the building. The first thing you see as you walk in is a colossal 3-D mural of koi fish in vivid and eye-catching hues of blue and orange. There were various sculptures, paintings, and fabrics from China in almost every room of the office. When asked about the prominent Chinese influence in his office, Bobak replied, “ From my travels to China I have brought back memories with me and have grown to love the culture. I have a koi pond in my house, that’s how much I love fish.” Traveling to China is a vital part of the process for Urgent Gear. Roofian travels to China for factory sourcing, fabrics, trims, as well as for expediting the sampling process or deliveries. However, the company manufactures both in China and domestically as well. As the head decision maker of the company, Bobak Roofian is constantly traveling all over, from New York, to Spain, to China. When asked about what it’s like having to leave often and be away from his family and business Roofian reveals that he is quite the perfectionist; “It’s very difficult, leaving the office alone is difficult, when it comes to leaving to China it’s very difficult. I’m a very hands-on person and a bit of a control freak. I’d rather be here but I must go, so I try to minimize going to China as much as possible.”
