Downtown Los Angeles has grown over the years into an area that is thriving and flourishing in the realms of business, nightlife, fashion, and culture. As more and more Iranian Jews immigrated to Los Angeles, downtown Los Angeles slowly became a region where the Iranian Jewish community opened up various businesses and started to have an increasing influence in the world of textiles, jewelry, and fashion. As the Iranian Jewish business owners multiplied and became prominent players in the downtown L.A. business sphere, the Jewish influence in the area was slowly increasing as well. Many Kosher restaurants set up shop, new synagogues were built, and many religious business owners closed on Saturdays in observance of Shabbat. Bobak Roofian is a noted designer, manufacturer and distributor in the world of fashion. He is the co-owner and co-founder of the company Urgent Gear, Inc., which is a company comprised of eight different brands carrying the latest fashions for young men, women and children. As an accomplished businessman in the competitive garment industry in downtown Los Angeles, he has had a huge influence on the Iranian Jewish Community. He was able to give us a little look into his life, work, and journey and how he feels that he has influenced the Iranian Jewish community in the downtown business sphere, and also in turn, how his Iranian Jewish Identity has shaped him and his business practices and family values.
