Born and raised in Los Angeles, Elaine Daneshrad attended UCLA, earning a bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 2011. During her time at UCLA, Daneshrad considered attending either medical or law school after graduation—career paths similar to those pursued by many members of the Iranian Jewish community to which she belongs. However, she found that she possessed an interest in and knack for marketing and public relations.
Daneshrad's interests led her to commit much of her free time in college to internships with various media organizations, such as Bolthouse Productions, MHA Media, MTV, and UCLA Student Media. After thoroughly reflecting on her interests and finding support from her friends at college, Daneshrad decided to forego a medical or legal education and instead pursue a career in public relations. In public relations, Daneshrad worked with influential clients such as T-Mobile, helping to organize events and market the company’s latest technological devices to its various target audiences.
After some time working in public relations, Daneshrad decided to embark on a solo career that would combine her love of public relations with her interests in fashion and social media. Her goals ultimately led to the inception of her blog, Fashionlaine, which features frequent posts that focus on Daneshrad’s taste in style, beauty regimens, product recommendations, and excursions to destinations as diverse as New York, Israel, and Europe. In addition to displaying her unique fashion sense and promoting clothing brands, Daneshrad has also used her blog as a means to encourage followers to embrace their own personal styles. In fact, her official blog motto is “Be What You Want, Wear What You Want.”
Daneshrad’s motto stems from her experiences in her early youth, when her aspirations and style did not always conform to the status quo of her community. Despite being misunderstood at times, she found encouragement among friends to begin a blog. While she did not immediately take their advice, their words eventually prompted her to pursue her desires. Today, Daneshrad’s Fashionlaine incorporates the founder’s experiences into a medium through which her followers can be inspired to not only be different, but also take pride in their identities.
