David Rahimian: Civic Service Beyond Government

In addition to his work with the LADWP, David Rahimian serves the citizens of Los Angeles in other projects as well. He has been working with the Midnight Mission organization for the past few years to provide Nowruz meals to homeless individuals in downtown L.A. Nowruz celebrates Iranian culture and the renewal and the birth of a New Year. The Midnight Mission, which provides a variety of services to the homeless, now includes an annual celebration of Norwuz, helping to spread awareness of Nowruz and serve people in need at the same time.

For a few years now, David has also volunteered with ETTA , which provides programs and services that enable people with disabilities to live fully enriched, independent and happy lives. ETTA's vision is an inclusive, participatory community of people, with and without disabilities, succeeding and growing together. David states that everyone deserves a chance in this life. If someone is born with a disability, then there must be a community that will help him or her right away. Giving the people served by this organization a sense of self-worth is what makes it all worthwhile for David Rahimian.
