Conclusion: Hong Kong and Macau, Different Multilingualism

Why so different? Because it is supposed to be

Even though they are both the SARS of People's Republic of China and both crowned with "multilingualism" in the South China Sea area, Hong Kong and Macau, no matter how similar they appear to be, are different.Through the perspective of language, the difference is demonstrated in their multilingualism.
Why? Because it is supposed to be.
Great Britain and Portugal establish and govern their colonies in a different time period and in different ways.Macau highly resembles Portugal in its architecture, but Hong Kong inherits the mindset. When the East meets the West, British diaspora do not evolve to be a unique community, but Portuguese overseas become Macanese. The different interaction between East and West produces the distinct multilingualism, because language is given more connotations in colonization. After the 1997/1999 Return, Hong Kong and Macau also reacts differently to the mainland influence. The impact is political, cultural and economic. While both cities adopts an relatively open attitude to mandarin presence, one shows more resistance than the other. The different colonization results in different process of decolonization,so the language condition in post-colonial Hong Kong and Macau contrasts significantly.
The difference today could be traced to the very beginning of the colonial history,or even before that.In the post-colonial identity construction, Hong Kong and Macau should be aware of not only the "threat" of total assimilation into mainland China, but also the tendency to be the duplication of each other. Hong Kong and Macau, the Twin Starts on the Pearl River Delta, diverge in their growth and should uphold each one's unique identity.
I was first surprised to see the nuance, and now I hope it will stay.
