Henry Jenkins is the Provost's Professor of Communications, Journalism, Cinematic Arts, and Education at the University of Southern California. Before coming to USC, he was on the faculty of Literature at MIT for twenty years, and he served for more than a decade as the founder and co-director of the Comparative Media Studies Program. He is the author or editor of fifteen books, including Textual Poachers: Television Fans and Participatory Culture, From Barbie to Mortal Kombat: Gender and Computer Games (With Justine Cassell), Convergence Culture: Where Old and New Media Collide, Spreadable Media: Creating Meaning and Value in a Networked Culture (with Sam Ford and Joshua Green), and Reading in a Participatory Culture: Remixing Moby-Dick for the Literature Classroom (with Wyn Kelley, Katie Clinton, Jenna McWilliams, Ricardo Pitts-Wiley, and Erin Reilly). His white paper, Confronting the Challenges of a Participatory Culture, helped lay the foundations for the MacArthur Foundation's Digital Media and Learning initiative. He was the principle investigator for the New Media Literacies Project, which developed a range of curricular initiatives and training programs designed to test and implement the white paper's agenda. He also serves as a member of the MacArthur Foundation's Youth and Participatory Politics Network, where he is currently developing a book length study of new forms of activism that has deployed new media platforms and participatory practices to increase youth participation in civic and political life.
