typifiers

This is something I have thought about a lot. I try not to marginalize people by not always specifying descriptions of the 'type' of woman I may be talking about. But I fear when I do this I rob them of their identity and their history; even if I know I am not talking about a white woman I know others often assume I am. This doesn't seem like a equitable solution either.
