Scalar Class Project: Loss

general description.

this project is in memorial to Amadou Diallo, a black man wrongly killed by the police on february 5, 1999. as recapped in an article by christian red of the new york times, Diallo's death sparked outrage among the black community due to the fact that he was unarmed and defenseless.  the incident occurred late at night, when Diallo was sitting outside on his porch.  the police believed he looked suspicious, and got out of their car to confront him.  when Diallo saw the approaching police officers, he pulled out his wallet. the police reacted instantly, drawing their weapons and shooting him before he could react (Red).

41 shots were fired.

Diallo was shot 19 times.

as a direct response to this tragedy, mendi and keith obadike wrote "my hands/wishful thinking".  this work includes the sub-genres of social justice and community.  it was created using java and real player, and is hosted and can be read on an internet website.  after following a link to the website and clicking once on the main screen, a small pop-up box appears in the corner with the actual story.  this is a link to the primary website for this work.
