Scalar Class Project: Loss

General Description

"The Lobotomy" by Nicholas Swann, tells the fictional story of a doctor named Helmut Grubel who becomes obsessed with the human mind, and performs extremely unethical brain experiments. "The Lobotomy" documents aspects of Grubel's life and his string of brutal experiments, eventually leading to a lobotomy, where his own experiment proves to be his ultimate undoing. Although the reader is given freedom over choosing the order in which they read the passages, reading the passages from left to right appears to be the intended order because of the linearity of the overall story. By clicking the brain symbol, readers are given control over whether they would like to proceed with the story or re-read certain passages. "The Lobotomy" adds to the theme of loss because it represents the loss of humanity. In the spirit of research, Dr. Grubel does not think twice about the brutal and unethical nature of his own experiments. In addition, his patience experience a loss of sanity and perception of reality. "The Lobotomy" is a realistic fiction made with html and javascript.
