Photograph 4- General Materials
This is again another picture of material for sale at temple 4, Kinshoji, the temple that venerates the Virgin Mary resembling mother Kannon. This stand features small Buddha icon ornaments on the bottom drawer. On the left of the stand is a traditional Chichibu pilgrim’s walking stick. These are often sold at temples; however there is no evidence in this picture to tell if it is sold here. On the top shelf there are prints of two images seeming to resemble bodhisattvas, the one on the right certainly is of the Mother Kannon. There are also three different types of omamori on the table. The purpose of an omamori is to protect the carrier from specific ailments. Given that this is a temple to Mother Kannon it is likely that most of these amulets are for the protection and health of mothers and children.
