Соmmоn Health Issues in Cats

Cats are creatures happy to purr in your lap for a while just to jump down conduct one of daily grooming sessions or to inquire into the food bowl.  Most cat health issues arise because of conditions the cat encounters.  There are some issues that are common to all cats although cats have fewer heath problems.

Hairballs

Cat hairballs are harmful but can be annoying and messy.  The issue is most often seen in cats with long fur.  When laying in their pet bed, grooming themselves, loose hair is ingested by the cat.  This can be lessened by training your pet not to groom as much. Much of the hair can pass through the digestive tracts without a problem.   For the feline, this is uncomfortable and grass may be eaten by him in an attempt. When the hairball is regurgitated by the cat, he feels better but his owner might not appreciate cleaning the mess up.  Cats will have a hair ball incident a few times while some pets seem prone to problems.

Laxatone comes in flavors for picky cats.  This gel acts as a lubricant to keep the cat hairs when they are ingested, from sticking together.  By helping the hair pass through the digestive system the vomiting decreases.  Petromalt is a hairball remedy that makes the hair more easy to digest. Brushing will remove a lot of the fur in your cat before licking and his grooming causes him to swallow it.  A custom of daily brushing of your long haired cat together with a hairball remedy can greatly reduce the frequency of vomiting.

Worms and Parasites

Untreated hookworms, roundworms, whipworms and tapeworm in cats can seriously damage your pet's health.  Cats can develop chronic diarrhea. Kittens that are young and anemia and weight loss might perish from the dehydration. And blood loss resulting from parasites.

It is not possible to treat worms and parasites - the treatment is easy and cost effective for owners.  Cat worm medicine should be given to your cat on a regular basis.  You would be wrong although you might think the cat in your house is not exposed to worms.  All pets have worms at some time.  The issue of rats is particularly significant in kitten care.

Medicine may be in liquid or tablet form and gives medications such as Drontal or pyrantel pamoate.  This may sound easier than it's as cats are notorious for their resistance to taking a pill and will ignore food when they know it contains medication.  The way to make sure the medication is actually swallowed by your feline is to administer a liquid.  Swallowing is the only viable choice for the modern pet.

Cat Dental Health

Cat teeth cleaning or gingivitis' idea is a new addition in the area of health care for cats.  During health exams, the cat's teeth received just a cursory inspection in the past.  We know that dental health is complex for the modern cat and problematic as the health of teeth and gums in people.

Cats eat and salivate and those both can lead to tooth and gum problems.  Plague builds up  combined with minerals from the cat's saliva and forms tarter on the teeth.  Cat teeth can decay and gums may become infected and inflamed. Feline gingivitis is normal and uncomfortable.  If your cat is drooling or has bad breath, this might be an indication of infection pain in his mouth.  Bacteria growing in the animals as disease attack organs such as the heart, kidneys and the liver and can move through the blood stream.

Assessing the health of your cat will require your veterinarian's expertise.  It might take help to start your cat's mouth wide enough to clearly see the back teeth where dental problems will be visible.  Examinations are also useful in routine health exams.

Gums that are constantly inflamed may be a problem of gingivitis or a symptom of a problem in the immune system.  Pain may be indicated by drooling from an infected tooth but might be an indication of a growth in the mouth or throat.

You can provide your cat by following guidelines for feline health care.  Treat common cat health problems quickly as they occur to prevent secondary infections and life threatening emergencies.
