Idealism in E-Lit

Fate/Stay Night by Kinoko Nasu

Introduction to Story:
Fate/Stay Night is a visual novel that revolves around a mythical war that's held every 60 years for what is referred to as "The Holy Grail", an omnipotent wish-granting device that has been, unknown to everyone in the war, corrupted. Magic(or more properly, thaumaturgy), is still practiced in secret by mages, and each time the war is held, 7 people(usually mages, although occasionally others are lumped in as well) are each paired with a figure from history and mythology summoned by the Grail, known as a "Servant". Outsiders are not supposed to witness nor even know of the war, and that is where the main character, Shirou Emiya, steps in. He is a below average mage, who, upon witnessing the first battle of the war, immediately tries to flee and gets stabbed in the heart. He miraculously survives, and he is about to get stabbed in the heart again when he triggers an accidental summoning, becoming a member of the war. The work follows his journey through the war and how he develops as a character.

Fate/Stay Night is divided into three potential routes, each with a different aspect of Shirou's character being focused on. The first route is the "Fate" route, which focuses on his love for the Servant that he has summoned, King Arthur, who has been genderbent into a female. The second is the "Unlimited Blade Works" route, which focuses on his ideals of becoming a hero himself one day and the lengths that he will go to achieve that goal. The final route, "Heaven's Feel", revolves around how Shirou must shatter his ideals in order to protect those that he cares about. Each reveals a different facet to Shirou's ideals, such as his unwavering determination to keep those ideals as well as the circumstances in which he might eventually throw them away.

To play in English, you need a patch. It was never released in English, so the text above is taken from the fan translation. Get it from this website:

Download the game itself from a website. I can't link it here, but instructions are in the video. You need to buy the CD form first in order to make sure that your acquisition of the game is legal.
Then, Follow the video linked here:

An easier way would be to just pirate it, but seeing as I cannot condone piracy here, I have to resort to this method.
