Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

Dear Sir:- Referring to your favor of the 21st. ulto., [October?], which has remained unanswered owing to Mr. Edison's absence from the City, I beg to enclose you what he considers the quickest method of writing. Mr. Edison used this method when he was a telegraph operator taking Associated Press Reports, and he claims that he could write more rapidly and with less fatigue than by any other means. You will notice every letter is written separately. Yours very truly, Private Secretary. Enc.plain2015-10-17T17:48:17-07:00David Kaminski07bced4188406e593172d68cdc95082ae3e49f43
