New LMS Pre-Conference for SIDLIT Meets Vital Need

Photos by David Swisher, Tabor College

In 2017, Colleague 2 Colleague offered its first-ever LMS Preconference.

The inspiration came from attendees to prior SIDLIT conferences, who mentioned an interest in learning more about learning management systems (LMSes).  A group from Butler Community College hosted a special interest group (SIG) lunch about Canvas.  The participants at that lunch session expressed their continuing interest.

To meet this need, Brian A. Dye and a steering committee of fellow volunteers led an effort to offer the inaugural LMS Preconference in 2017, just prior to the two-day SIDLIT conference.  The event cost $10 per participant and included three presentations and snacks!

This photo essay provides some highlights from that event.

Some Presentations

This inaugural and original LMS Preconference featured five tracks:  Canvas Track 1, Canvas Track 2, Moodle and D2L Tracks, Blackboard Track, and Miscellaneous Alternate LMS Track.  One hundred and one (101) people registered for this inaugural pre-conference held on Aug. 2, 2017.  The following are some photos from some of the  sessions.

Looking to 2018...

In 2018, a new LMS Preconference will be held. The event may be longer than a half-day one and may include a lunch. This effort is being led by Brian A. Dye (bdye@butlercc.edu) and David Swisher (davids@tabor.edu).  Any who may be interested in participating in this Steering Committee are encouraged to email the two event co-chairs.  The organizers would like members to consider presenting.  This second LMS Preconference will be held Aug. 1, 2018.  More details will be sent out later via the electronic mailing list for C2C.
