Letter from the Chair -- Kendra L. Barker
Dear Colleague 2 Colleague Members:
Happy New Year! I am very privileged to be Colleague 2 Colleague’s (C2C) Chairperson this year. I have been part of the C2C family for several years and am excited to lead us. I am an Instructional Design Specialist at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in the Collaborative to Advance Health Services department. My job involves working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to design and create informative and engaging online courses. In addition, I help my department to be 508 compliant. I absolutely love what I do!
C2C's Vice Chairperson
Our Vice-Chairperson is Nicole Frank. Nicole is a Faculty Development Coordinator at Fort Hays State University. She is a pleasure to work with and a true asset to our organization. I am very pleased to work with her.
Let’s Talk!
As most of you know, C2C has several forms of communication throughout the year. This includes our Facebook page, and Twitter account. We are in the process of updating our webpage: Colleague 2 Colleague. In addition, we have our electronic mailing list. Along with Facebook and Twitter, the listserv list is a great way to send out announcements, job listings, and upcoming conferences. The listserv is a great place to ask your peers any questions/concerns you are currently facing in your position. Members of C2C come from diverse jobs and industries, and they are always willing to help. If you would like to be on our listserv, please send me an email (barkerk@umkc.edu).
The “C2C Digital Magazine” is our flagship journal. Two issues are released each year. Recently, we worked with Barry J. Bailey to have our journal listed in ScholarSpace, which means that the articles are indexed in Google Scholar. Thanks to Barry and the publishing team for making this happen.
SIDLIT 2018!
The Steering Committee is busy planning our annual SIDLIT conference (Summer Institute on Distance Learning and Instructional Technology) and making positive changes for our members and organization. Our theme for SIDLIT this year is “Tools, Trends & Challenges.” We are pleased to announce that we will continue the LMS Pre-conference the day before SIDLIT. The pre-conference will be held August 1 (Wed.), and SIDLIT will be the 2nd and 3rd (Thurs. & Fri.).
Keynotes Double Header!
Dr. Hap Aziz
We are excited to announce that we will again have two keynotes speakers. Dr. Hap Aziz has been in education for over two decades. His roles include focusing on learner engagement, online instruction, and innovative course design. Prior to that, Dr. Aziz worked in computer game and educational software development. His area of expertise is in the development of engaging content for K-20 students that leverages inexpensive and accessible technology. Dr. Aziz will engage you with some fun interactive activities.
Dr. Kimberly Goforth
Dr. Kimberly Goforth has over 16 years of experience in education. From teaching to curriculum design /instructional coaching, she has the knowledge!. Dr. Goforth will show us how to incorporate tools, trends, and challenges to our younger students to better prepare them for higher education.
SIDLIT 2018 Presentation Proposal Topic Ideas
We heard from the majority of you that you would like more presentations on the following topics: accessibility, instructional design (including the process, success stories, engagement, element of good instructional design, and gamification), pedagogy, emerging technologies, classroom practices, anything and everything about LMSs, and hands-on sessions. The Presentation Committee will start accepting presentation proposals soon, so start thinking now about what you would like to present.
The Awards Committee is eager to announce that the Technology Award is dividing into two categories this year: instructional design, and technology. That brings us to five awards! We will hear more about these two new awards along with the others in upcoming months. Whom will you nominate?
I would quickly like to take a moment and thank everyone on the Steering Committee for volunteering their time and expertise to C2C. It does take a village, and we would be lost without you. I would also like to thank you…our members. Your gift of knowledge is our greatest asset. Please continue to network and share your expertise with members.
If you have any thoughts, ideas, or concerns, please contact me anytime.
See you in August!
Remember: Tools, Trends & Challenges!
Sincerely,
Kendra Barker, M.Ed.
