Rather than show interactions with the novel's main characters, the following graphs provide data on various types of interactions Levin has with Fabrikant.

It's difficult to interpret a graph with so many categories presented simultaneously, but looking at them in concert allows us to clearly see that in the few interactions Levin has with Fabrikant, Levin clearly dominates the conversation in some form or another. In their first interaction, for example, Levin gives a tremendous amount of information, while in their final encounter Levin asks a large amount of questions. Clearly giving information is not solely correlated with having power; these interactions actually support the opposite, that asking questions can demonstrate power if the person asking is using the questions to probe (and possibly challenge). This complicates and nuances the ways we can analyze power dynamics in A New Life.

As stated above, Levin tends to lead interactions in the beginning and the end. Focusing on information, though, reveals that Fabrikant does indeed give a fair amount of information in their middle interactions.

Though the dataset here is terribly small, this visualization offers a microcosm of evidence in the changing roles of Fabrikant and Levin. In the beginning Levin is helpless and therefore on the defensive, but towards the end he begins to challenge Fabrikant and this manifests itself in Fabrikant's tendency to obfuscate information.

Except for their first interaction, Fabrikant is giving Levin information more than Levin gives Fabrikant information.

This graph complicates the analysis listed above by showing that Levin's rise in inquiry was gradual rather than instantaneous. The data shows that in reality there was no single defining moment where Levin suddenly begun asking questions in large quantities; while his final confrontation with Fabrikant may or may not have been inspired by specific information, he was clearly already growing more confident.
