Siege of the Sogdian Rock

The Siege of the Sogdian Rock took place in 327 BC.  In order to reach the summit of this fortress, Alexander the Great asked for volunteers to scale the mountain side.  Three hundred men had previous experience with rock climbing.  Thirty of the men did not reach the top.  However when the climbers reach the top, the occupiers quickly surrendered because of a sense of fear towards Alexander the Great.
