Female Soldiers in the Military

Over 220,000 American women have served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Eleven per cent of the American forces in Iraq and Afghanistan are female soldiers. Fifteen per cent of the active-duty military are women and the percentage is rising every year. The number of women using VA services is rising.

One hundred and ten female U.S. soldiers have been killed during the war in Iraq and 30 in Afghanistan, although until recently women were not regarded as combatants. Yet, even the military nurses have received combat training to prepare them to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn and Operation Enduring Freedom.
