Shekinah has studied French since elementary school, and, after beginning classes at USC, she decided to continue pursuing her studies of French language and culture.
When she heard about the opportunity to be a part of the Voltaire Project at the university, she was excited and eager to contribute. After declaring French as her second major, she went on to participate (May-June 2017) in a research-driven French course that took her and her peers to Senegal, where she conducted research regarding attitudes towards mental health, and mental and emotional disorders in Senegal, as compared to those found in the United States.
