Considered a pioneer in contemporary Chinese abstract painting, Fong Chung-Ray has sustained a unique and reputable career. In 1957 with the help of three navy colleagues, Fong helped create the Four Seas Painting Association. Acknowledged for his use of personal expression and quest for modernity, the prominent Fifth Moon Painting Society invited Fong to join their group of influential artists. Through a combined effort of new media and techniques, this group of artists sought to innovate Chinese identity in the modern art world. Following the 1960s, a convergence of abstract expression and traditional eastern art style can be observed in his artwork.
