The Charlie Shavers Quintet

The Charlie Shavers Quintet, “She’s Funny That Way/ Dizzy’s Dilemma,” Vogue Picture Disc (US), Label #R754, 10” 78rpm, 1947.

A short-lived record label created in Detroit, Michigan in the 1940s, Vogue released records embedded with artwork. This was done by pressing the printed illustration around a core of aluminum, then coating both sides with clear vinyl upon which the grooves were stamped. The pictures usually related to the title of the song on that side. The first disc was released May 1946 and production ceased less than a year later in April 1947. Approximately 74 record issues were released. Picture discs have seen a resurgence in the last few years as vinyl’s popularity has also risen.
