Tolley: Online

Frankie Trumbauer and His Orchestra

Frankie Trumbauer and His Orchestra, “Baltimore/Humpty Dumpty,” OKeh (US), Label #40926, 10” 78rpm, 1927.

This recording features the famous cornet player Bix Beiderbecke. The Tolley collection has nearly all recordings featuring Beiderbecke before his death in 1931 at the age of 28.

The same year of this recording, Trumbauer and Beiderbecke also recorded “Singin’ the Blues” featuring guitarist Eddie Lang, which is considered an influential recording on the OKeh label. Beiderbecke also made a name for himself recording with Trumbauer during these years and his distinguished style of cornet playing eventually lead him to play with Paul Whiteman’s band. This recording of the 1920 composition has become a jazz standard.
