Expanding Space
Before coming across material directly relating to John Culkin, I came across two items within the Media Studies' folders that made me reflect on the growth of our program. Not only has the program grown in the number of students, but spatially as well.
For instance, the image above is the floor plan of “the Penthouse” where the Center of Understand Media in conjunction with the New School was housed at 66 Fifth Ave. Though this may not represent the most interesting floor plan, it nonetheless points to the spatial expansion of our program here within New York City. Not only have our classrooms expanded to multiple buildings and floor levels, but also to an online arena . One thing that the M.A. in Media Studies prides itself on is the fact that the entire degree can be completed online. And while I believe that the "classroom" experience could never be replaced, media studies represents a field of research that could be taken advantage of anywhere in the world. Online environments also encourage and easily permit collaborations among students and scholars alike.
