In
Reinventing Comics, McCloud finds that the best alternative to these messy combinations of space and time proliferating in digital comics is to double down on temporal mapping through the concept of the
infinite canvas.
The infinite canvas treats the screen not as a page, but as a window, beyond which exists a temporal map that can be potentially infinite in size.
The word “infinite" for McCloud means something more complex than just a vast two dimensional plane, as these examples show. It is, however, a fundamentally spatial concept, and one he places in opposition to the instantaneous navigation of the hyperlink.
