The agreeable sounds of war

During the battle described in the Girone chanson,  the Duke asked an artilleries officer, "Do you hear that music?"after he was nearly struck down by a canon ball.  (You can read the whole anecdote in this 1827 account).  Associating the sounds of war with the sound of music, Noailles conveyed the thrill nobles supposedly enjoyed while fighting for the king.  The sounds of war were agreeable, thus musical.
