Uncle Sam

Uncle Sam was and remains a popular symbol of America. In shaking hands with the emblem, the woman of this poster is pledging her service to the United States, much like a soldier. Additionally, the title of the Woman's Land Army certainly suggests that women were taking on a large responsibility for the war effort.
