Basketball

Not only was basketball popular with the boys, but this sport also had a women's league. The Y would hold leagues for their workers and their families and one of the most important winter sport they hosted was Basketball.  Basketball games were won during the season by Steel Y intermediates.  This sport was very important to the community because it allowed the laborers to express thier aggression within a positive atmosphere.  By being able to release aggression and energy on the court this helped many citizens keep out of trouble and stay off the streets.  The Y had a very important role to the CF&I Steelworks laborers.  It gave a sense of escape where you could go to feel enjoyment within the rough community.
