Baseball

Baseball is arguably, the number one "All American" sport. Popular in Southern Colorado since the late 19th Century,
baseball widely became a favorite pastime of the Steelworks laborers. The Y Baseball leagues were integral in community building as all laborers were welcome on the leagues including immigrants.

The sport wasn't just played by men, the YMCA made sure that women and children of all ages were included within the sports activities.  Playing sports helped the emigrants feel more comfortable socializing outside of their neighborhoods.  Not only was the game an activity that was enjoyable it brought forth a competitive sense of camaraderie among the workers and community.
