"This is My Song"

“This is My Song” (1934), was written by Lloyd Stone, a music major in California, who became a poet and song-writer; this is his most well-known song.  But it has become a classic because it is so often sung to the gorgeous tune “Finlandia” by Jean Sibelius (1899). Choristers always sing it--with international flags--to conclude our Patriotic Concerts, to remind ourselves and our audiences that "God [is] of all the nations" (v. 1), that "other hearts in other lands are beating, with hopes and dreams as true and high as mine" (v. 1), and that we sing this "song of peace for their land and for mine" (v. 3).  Ultimately, as Stone writes, God is "Lord of all earth's kingdoms" and we strive for "hearts united [to] learn to live as one" (v. 3).
