Patriotic Hymns & Songs

About the Songs:

Patriotic songs and hymns are those sung for love of country and for God's blessing on that country, respectively.  They are sung by all nations, of course.  As a choir based in the United States, we focused on those for our country, historically.  All came out at pivotal times in our history, after the Revolutionary War, during the Civil War, and at the dawn of the 20th century.  We added "Amazing Grace" which, in the United Methodist Hymnal (1989), contains the first line translated in 5 indigenous languages, and sang it in Cherokee to honor the nations who inhabited these lands way before white settlers. Here we end with  "This is My Song" (Finlandia) which reminds us of the God of all nations and our common quest for peace.

About the Choirs:

These songs were all sung by the Community Choristers in 2025 and 2026!
We held a Patriotic Hymn Camp June 24-25, 2025, for 30 singers to learn 10 hymns and 4 patriotic songs, then sang them at our own Wayne County (Indiana) 4-H Fair on June 24th, right before America's Fourth of July 2025 celebration. We also sang them at our "Evensong" concert, together with hymn favorites (see Part 7).  Our singers were: Andrei Aureu, Vivian Beckerich, Allister Bergfield, Kennedy Carpenter, Sophie Carter, Maddie Edwards, Ambrose Imhoff, Winnie & Frankie Kendall;  Alice, Eleanor, and Charlotte Kostiuk; Liam, Madeleine, Finian, Jane, & Leisl McNay; Hannah Mooney, Grace Parshall, Sophie, Greta, Sam, Lilly, & Hope Royer; Josiah and Jessie Weesner; Tommy & Elliot Wells; and Stella West.

We repeated the Patriotic Hymn Camp on June 23-24, 2026 with 20 singers to re-learn these patriotic songs and 6 new hymns, then sang them at the Leland Senior Living, the Wayne County Fair, and the National Anthem we sang before our local baseball game in June 2026!  Our singers were: Wren & Arlow Angarita, Vivian Beckerich, Allister, Anna, Larry, & Elizabeth Bergfield, Kennedy Carpenter, Freya Duty, Maddie Edwards, Ambrose Imhoff, Winnie & Frankie Kendall, Hannah Mooney, Grace Parshall; Sophie, Greta, Sam, Lilly, & Hope Royer; Norah Staifer, and Stella West.  Happy Birthday to Stella this week, both years!
