"Only a Little Sparrow"

"Only a Little Sparrow" (1879) is another early song in the Band of Mercy Advocate, 9th issues, with music by P. P. Bliss, as the children sing from the perspective of the little sparrow, that the "Lord careth for me," and makes sure they have enough to eat (v. 1-2).  Even though "there are many sparrows", yet "Surely our Father knoweth When one of us falls to the ground, alluding to Matthew 10:29 (v. 3). In addition to teaching empathy to the sparrows, there is an implicate message to humans, too: God likewise gives humans their portion, from fruit to vegetable, the food is sometimes scanty, and “life is more than meat” (v. 2).

The 2020 Band of Mercy sang this as "Only a Little Piggie" since we sang it as pre-show music to Charlotte's Web!
