"Cry of the Little Brothers"

"Cry of the Little Brothers" (1913) is not about people, but about stray dogs and cats in our midst: "homeless in cold and heat...four-footed little beggers...stoned and sworn at and beaten" (v. 1).  Told in first-person, it begs the humans "to listen to a starving kitten...Behold us, your little brothers" as it appeals to humans as siblings to the animals.  The tune is not easy with awkward leaps and change of keys, but it does have an important march-like beat, useful for young people marching the streets with their message!  It might include any animal needing our protection today!
