“A Mouse Story” (1917) is a sweet story of a mouse who builds a home in the fields, quote an apartment full of furniture and food! But in the fall, the wind most alert her that the farmer is coming through with a scythe.  She takes her family and builds another home!  It reminds children that animals have homes and families which need protection.  Note that this came out the during the end of WWI, perhaps a need to provide an entertaining story as well as an empathetic one.
