Social Movements in South Korea

Social Movements in South Korea

Greetings!

In this module, we will review core theories of social movement organizing, including “collective action” and “connective action.” As a case study, we will focus on the candlelight protests organized in South Korea from 2016 to 2017, which led to the impeachment of the former president, Park Geun-Hye. I hope this historic example helps us examine the nature of digitally-enabled social movements.
