Our Community
Within USC Dornsife, we work with the following departments and programs: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, the Environmental Studies Program, Mathematics, Neuroscience, and Physics and Astronomy.
The library has a history of working with these science departments, participating in orientations and instruction. For example, we also create specific Chemistry Course Guides for General Chemistry A & B, Advanced Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry as well as a Seismic Maps guide to assist with geological research. With a more interdisciplinary focus, we created a Sustainability Research Guide to house sustainability information happening on campus, in Los Angeles, nationally, and globally.
We also support the USC Viterbi: Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, Astronautical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Industrial and Systems Engineering.
Within Viterbi, we support the SHINE program with library instruction every summer. We have also participated in Engineering Freshman Academy, providing research foundations and evaluation of sources. Recently, we partnered with the Engineering Honors Colloquium and our business librarian colleagues in order to support the entrepreneurship and innovation inherent in our programs. We publish a Patents and Trademarks Research Guide to highlight important and relevant information regarding patents and trademarks in the United States.
To further aid our STEM communities, we manage the Science & Engineering Citation Style Guide, highlight popular citation styles such as ACS, CSE, IEEE, AMS, and AIP. We are active participants in the WRIT 150 and 340 programs; we have created course guides, held in-class instruction, recorded library sessions for Blackboard, and developed activities to assess students' information literacy skills for variety.
