In the Fall of 2013, the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities at the University of Illinois joined the Alliance for Networking Visual Culture, creators of the new open-access digital authoring platform Scalar.  Students and faculty in our Department of History have begun working with Scalar as a tool for research and teaching.

This presentation (written in Scalar!) is dedicated to introducing you to both Scalar and what use it might have for historians.

One way to dive right in is to watch this video, made by Scalar's creators, the Alliance for Networking Visual Culture.

Here, we've tried to boil this introductory material down to a very basic minimum, as well as to add some information on what opportunities this tool offers historians in particular.  To enter Scalar from this angle, follow the path below.
