Can I See Some Examples?

In this test phase of its existence, new scholarship in Scalar is appearing every day, produced by both professional researchers and students writing for classes.

One way to survey what's been published is to go to the main Scalar index page and begin browsing around.

Another is to view ANVC's showcase of good Scalar projects.

Last, but not least, here are some samples that we've collected locally (let us know if you find other ones you like).

Books by Professional Researchers:
  1. The Nicest Kids in Town
  2. Growing Apart: A Political History of Inequality

Experimental Pieces or Articles (including student work):

  1. The Hannah More Project
  2. Living History Project
  3. When I Served the Post as a Coachman (A Russian Romance)
Syllabus, Handouts, and Assignments from History 396C ("History of 'Black Music' in the Americas and Beyond"):
During spring 2014, we are experimenting with how to use Scalar in the classroom.  For this particular class, which involves a heavy dose of a/v material, Scalar seems like a perfect match that will allow students to engage with course material in dynamic new ways.  Over the course of the semester, we will include links below to assignments, in-class exercises, etc.  Much of the language in these "handouts" is derived from the material that you will find from the materials that you will find in our How Can I Get Started? page but simplified and adapted for the needs of this particular class.
  1. Course Syllabus
  2. First Exercise
  3. Overview and Start up Instructions for Students
