Recollections of My Life and Reflections on Times and Events During It: A Memoir by Father W. J. Howlett

Cardinal Cullen

Paul Cullen was born in 1803 in Ireland. Named the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Dublin in 1852, he became the first Irish Cardinal six years later. Cullen publicly opposed the strong nationalist movement of his contemporaries. He eventually barred clergy from participating in political events.
