The first step to synching media with your text is to create a reference, such as "Figure 1" within your narrative. Next, select the text "Figure 1" and, then, select the very first media icon. This looks like an arrow on top of a blue background. When you place your button over this icon, it states "Add reference to Scalar media file (for display in views which allow media)". In order to view your media, you will have to change the "Default View" setting. On the bottom of your page, select "Split Emphasis" from the Default View drop-down menu. Then select "Save" and viola!
