MacBook Pro (2011)

I bought this laptop in the summer of 2011 before heading to Yale. It's 17 inches-long, and has been my primary computer throughout my time in college. While it is a mundane object found in libraries lecture halls across Yale, it resonates with me as constant reminder of the mobilities--physical and social-- I've engaged in since going to college. Buying the computer was a collective effort from my California support network of close friends and family. I knew I needed a laptop to facilitate a successful transition to Yale, and moreover, choosing an Apple product placated, at least to a small degree, my trepidations with fitting in amongst the array of people I'd knew I'd encounter. As an physical manifestation of my imaginative assumptions of Yale, the laptop has been crucial to my ability to thrive as a student.

Moreover, it symbolizes the migrations that resulted beyond my move to New Haven. My move to Yale, and the resulting forging of new mobilities, has been done by and through my laptop. I use it to manage logistics, keep me in check while mobile, and maintain rapports with the people I've met through my various travels. Quite frankly, my laptop has been the lodestone of all my experiences at Yale, and something I must necessarily cherish.
