Exhibit Reflection

I think that by any measure, our digital exhibit at the Becton Café was a success. It was fascinating to see the different approaches that my classmates took to exploring the concept of Latino mobility, and how all of our presentations fit together to form a cohesive whole. And I was very pleased with how my own presentation went. The audience seemed very interested, and my media objects were presented well. I was happily surprised to see how well our exhibit was documented on Twitter! Getting a retweet from @latinomuseum is an impressive achievement for our small undergraduate exhibit. The feedback I received from our online survey was invaluable. Respondents said that the map I created was “striking,” and that they believed mapping would be useful for other instances of collective action in California. But, as one response noted, mapping is "not necessarily sufficient to tell the whole story" of any historical event. This feedback has encouraged me to pursue my interest in historical mapping, hopefully for the rest of my time as an undergraduate, and perhaps beyond that. But I will always be sure to accompany my maps with analysis and other visual materials to tell stories as completely as possible.
